Together we will keep their star shining bright

In loving memory of Robert Walker, we invite you to join us in supporting the Leukaemia Foundation. Robert faced his journey with strength and courage, and by donating, you help continue the fight for better treatments, greater support, and hope for families affected by blood cancer.

Robert was diagnosed in April of 2017 at the age of 60 with Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) which turned into Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) within 3 months of being diagnosed. Robert spent 4 weeks in hospital after undergoing aggressive chemo treatment and  it was then decided by Robert’s specialist team, to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant on the 5th October 2017, using his beloved sister Heather’s stem cells. Robert was a fighter and was discharged from hospital 15+ days post transplant, with minimal side effects.  At his post transplant, day 100 review, he was thrilled to learn that the BMT was successful and he entered into remission. Robert continued to be monitored month by month, 3 monthly,  6 monthly and then on to yearly check ups.  Robert returned to work and lived a healthy and full life with family and friends enjoying overseas trips and camping weekends.

Six years after his bone marrow transplant, Robert was diagnosed in February 2024 with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) unclassified, a rare and incurable blood cancer. Over the years, he received expert care from Dr. Andrew Nicholls at Greenslopes Hospital, Dr. Jason Buter at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, and Dr. Ross Tomlinson at St. Andrew’s Private Hospital. Their dedication, along with the support of their teams, guided Robert through his treatments and weekly blood transfusions, ensuring he received the most advanced and current care available. With their support, Robert was able to live a full life, maintaining a positive outlook throughout his courageous fight.

Robert sadly lost his battle on the 27th November 2025 and was surrounded by family and love in his final moments.

Your contribution, in any amount, honours Robert’s life and helps make a meaningful difference to those affected by Leukaemia. Thank you for keeping Robert’s spirit alive through your generosity.

Thank you for your kind support
